Default high rev

1996 Protege with the 1.5L .automatic

Every morning i get in the car and start it up it revs up to about 2500 rpm and stays there for awhile tell the car seems to warm up. Is this a normal operation. If not what would this problem be? To me i think the car is reving to high for first start up in the mornings.

Please give me some feed back.

I live in Kansas. But it doesnt matter if its cold or hot outside the car does it all the time when you start it after it has been sitting all day. I just thought that since it is now cold here in the low 30's to mid teens! That the car shouldnt be high reving up like that right off the start. Maybe this is normal im not sure?

it's a 1996, and this is the first year this has happened?
My V6 goes right to 2500 right away as well, but does come down after a few minutes.
Ever change your coolant. Maybe you need a new coolant sensor as well as a flush & fill.

I'd also clean the throttle body and MAF and inspect your connecting hose for cracks.

Indeed: If you clean the throttle body including the IAC valve, the EGR valve and its passages your engine should run much smoother and fast idle should come to normal idle quickly.

Also have a look at sticky "The Unofficial User's Guide to the Mazda Protege".
