Default Any Suggestions - RPM Goes from 1000 - 1500

Hey All!

I am having a minor irratation with my Mazda Protege 5 - 2002. When driving at slow speeds and I let go of the gas the RPMs will jump from 1000 - 1500 and down to 1000 - 1500 again. This will usually continue for 10 seconds or so. Any ideas? Someone said oxygen sensor....

Thanks a heap in advance!!!

Phil

Are you getting a check engine light?? If so then it might be an O2 sensor. You'd have to get it read to find out. If not I would look more toward the Idle air control.

Check this link out, it is a complete copy of the shop manual for your car. go to each section and save it to your hard drive. You can see the procedure for checking the idle air control vale.

One other thing, does it do it transmission shift points???

That exact thing happens to my 2003 protege zm 1.6L auto. It started happening at about 32,000kM and i'm now at 61,000KM. I haven't found a solution. I clean my throttle body and EGR often and hope for the best.

BTW have you found out what exactly causes it, it's very irritating!!!
