I posted this in another forum, but I thought I'd do it here as well. Has anyone had experience with alarms & keyless entry for a 1997 Protege? My neighbor & I managed to get the alarm working quite well after about 5 hours of constant work, but the 97 Prots have a thing where only 1 wire controls the lock/unlock for the doors & requires a 4700 ohm resistor on the "lock" wire. Right now, I can push the button to lock all of the doors, close the door & arm the system, but as soon as I arm it, the doors unlock. I have no idea where to find that resistor either. JC Whitney thought it was the #775 relay, but that's not a resistor.

You can purchase a resistor at your local Radio Shack or electronics store. It did not say what alarm you are hooking up, but make sure the signal you send to the alarm module is one that is ground, not 12V. The resistor is incorporated in the lock switch and the outside lock cylinders.
Now you need to locate the White/Blue wire which will activate the door lock/unlock timer unit, which is located behind the right kick panel. For the lock wire on the output of the alarm, install the resistor in series and tap into the White/Blue wire. For the unlock wire from the alarm, tap directly into the same White/Blue wire with no resistor. This is how the timer unit knows whether you want lock or unlock.

I didn't even think about radio shack, but thought the price would be somewhere around that....As for the alarm, it's a Bulldog 6002. On their website, they have a diagram of what we need to do, which is how we found out about the resistor. The red wire is indeed grounded, not hooked to the 12v constant, even though I had to tell Mike he had it wrong originally. We found the wire very easily, because we had a diagram page from Bulldog telling us what went where & we knew about the 1 wire configuration long before we pulled the passenger kick panel. Thanks for you help! I can get the remote locks working now!
