Default air fuel metering.

My 98 keeps tripping the check engine light, I have a code reader which brings up code P0170: in the book it says fuel trim malfunction(bank 1) it also comes with a disc that says it tells more,, The program says fuel air metering.. I've asked Mazda and mechanics and they said probably an O2 sensor and the first one probably cause the book says bank 1. To me the first the sensor that is first on the exhaust closest to motorwould be #1.. Is that so? I changed that and light has come back on.. Should I just go down the sensor line? That 1st sensor cost me $97 and still wasn't the issue.. What's going on? I don't want nor can afford to go to a mechanic cause I just got my Neon out of the shop for $816 for head gasket and timing belt.. LOL

first mistake was a neon. j/k. the problem could be something as simple as a leak in one of the intake lines after the MAF sensor. i would check to see if there is a leak and clean the MAF sensor. clear the code and see if it comes back.

it should be right after the stock air box. it is the little black thing with wires coming from it.

I can't get rid of the light.. I've taken off the airfilter blew it out unplugged the wires going into the cover of the air filter housing, blew them out and the inside the the cap where the ascreen is and the light still comes on.. whats going on here? I would like to figure this out and fix myself and not pay someone the $78.00 they charge now adays.. LOL

I think I may have found the problem..I popped the hood to take another look around and seen the air tube from air filter housing to the motor was half cracked around in one spot. Have it taped up now , gonna clear code so we'll see.
