I have a 2004 rx8 and was getting the check engine light coming on also noticed a smell coming from car after parking in garage. then one day after driving to other side of town car would barely accelerate and not over 40mph. I took it to a local reputable shop and was told the cat code came up so it would need a new cat. that explains the smell. A friend who works for Nissan told me that the cat was warranty work if under 80,000 and it is. So I took it to mazda. They told me it was not the cat that it was the metering oil pump and that it was leaking and that my lower radiater hose was leaking onto my oil pump damaging it. I park my car in my garage every night and there is nothing leaking on my car . Can this be possible or am i getting lied to by the dealership . I am a girl and know enough about cars just not this car.
