Default 2003 Protege 5 Speed stick Lx 4 stud Rear wheel bearing abs assembly problem

Need some help. Installed a new rear wheel bearing assembly on the wheel and after tightening the axle nut it won't turn freely. Tried the other new one(replacing both) and it did the same. Put the old one back on til I figure it out and still had to pay the baffled mechanic. I've read multiple info that says to seat the new bearings by hand tightening, then torquing tight, then back to hand tight, repeating that process a few times but have not seen one you tube with technicians advising that or even mentioning it. He used power toosl, no torque wrench. I checked the part numbers twice with 2 different Autozones and they said it was correct except I should have gotten the abs version with the geared ring on it. We took the old ring off the old one and made sure it was in the same position as the old one. Any help would appreciated as I just ordered the wrong pair off Partsgeek(5 stud instead of 4 stud darnitt) and I'm out the aforementioned labor charge too. I do have a abs and brake warning light on the dash but have plenty of breaking power. Thanks and a Happy Memorial Day to everyone.
