2003 Protege5 Transaxel seal LEAKING after MULTIPLE replacements
Hey, everyone! Please help!!!
(Automatic transmission)
I have had my Protege5's transaxle seal changed by a trusted mechanic FIVE TIMES, and it is still leaking. I just put $1,300 into the vehicle and it breaks my heart that it's now losing enough fluid every 3 days to prevent proper shifting and i travel 40 miles to work each way.
The mechanic thought after the first two seals didn't fix the leak, he ordered a Mazda genuine seal. Slowed it, but didn't stop it. Checked the axel; seal groove was deeper than standard so we replaced that without a labor charge. But the problem keeps happening. Said it could be something they can't see inside the transmission, or a microfracture in the transmission body that enlarges with heat, they don't know for sure. Best bet is to swap transmissions but I can't afford that right now, but am open to suggestions.
174k miles on transmission.
Recent work:
engine mounts
Control arms
Radiator and hoses
radiator core connectors
multiple transaxel seals
Axel itself!
Any help or suggestions are appreciated, thank you so much!
