Default 1991 Protege spark plug wires/distibuter

I'm putting some new plug wires in a 1991 for someone. They took the wires out without knowing the order (just trying to help) to the distributer. Can someone tell me what cylinder (left to right facing front off car) goes to which disributer plug(12o clockwise) Kind of elementry but.....I'm going over there in the morning and don't have time to do it by trial and error.

take the cap off of the distributor and all of the spark plugs out. start by turning the motor until the first piston is all of the way up. you can tell this by using a long screwdriver and dropping it down into the cylinder. when that piston is all of the way up, the distributor will be sitting where the rotor is directly under the post that matches it. in other words, the rotor will be lined up to fire on that wire. just keep dropping the cap where it should sit and pick it back up to make sure that it is under the right point. do this for all of the pistons until all of them have matches.

sounds kind of confusing, but it is simple when you try it.

Is this the only way to figure this out. Are there not diagrams for this. Do these positions vary for the same car? This is a SOHC car. I'm working on a $900.00 CAR WITH 210,000 miles atleast thats where it stopped working.

there are diagrams, but i don't know where to find them. this is the way that i do things. the positions are the same for each car of the same model. i haven't had a car with a distributor in so long i don't know for sure.
