Default Mazda Bug Deflector Clips Headache

I bought a 2002 B4000 to replace my beloved 2003 B3000 that inadvertently got too close to a drunk driver. (He changed his mind on an entrance ramp and I went airborn and into a culvert, totaling it.)

The "new" truck has a bug deflector which I believe is a "real" Mazda one. The number on it is 7224870, which Google can't seem to find in connection with Mazda or anything else truck-like. On either end of the leading edge, it has a plastic clip and, under the hood, two phillips screws with knurled washers and a nut on the backside that I can't reach. I'm afraid to take them out and loose the nuts.

The problem is the farking plastic clips on the ends. Two have popped off in the last month. They a buck or so apiece, but that still sucks. I could probably adjust this thing forever and not know for sure if I've got it right until the next one pops off.

Does any of this sound familiar out there? Any adjustment procedures/tips for me?

Thanks in advance.

C.J.
