Honda guy here that just got ahold of a 93 MX3. learning the ropes..
Car runs but will die during Idle. Also, giving it gas will kill thre motor
quickly. Sometimes, when given a lot of gas (3k range on the tach), the motor will run until letting off the gas.

I jumped the diagnostics and am getting a 1 (long) and 8 (fast)...which is giving me code 18. However, when I look up the error codes for 93 MX3s, there doesn't seem to be a code 18. Someone on YouTube also has this exact problem with a 93 MX3..and has received no answers.

One time, I also got a 3 in between the 1 and the 8. But the 18 comes back continuously.

Engine sounds good otherwise (when running)..
Any help would be appreciated.

 

I found code 18 for Ford. Mazda belonged to Ford back then:

Just a thought, if you've gotten a 3 in between the 1 and the 8 then you may have 2 different codes, 10 and 08... both related to air intake


10 Intake air temperaturesensor (IAT)
08 Volume Air Flow sensor(VAF)
03 'G' camshaft positionsensor.

 

Also, Looking at the circuit diagram for the ignition system does not have an ICM.
