Default 2001 mpv has short not starting all the time

My wife has a 2001 mpv, sometimes when you go to start it, nothing happens, then you cannot get the key out of the ignition, if you hit the top of the steering column just right everything comes on and then you can start thecar, I've tried to get this fixed twice but have had no luck everytime a mechanic looks at it they say it is working fine, Has anyone had this problem? does anyonehave a wiring diagram of the steering wheel column.
thanks.

The key cylinders break quite often. If it is not taken care of quickly it will break the electrical portion of the switch which will cost 5 times as much to fix.Remove the lower steering column cover and you will see a small hole with a pin in it on the bottom under the cylinder. Put the key in the ignition and turn the key til it allows you to push that pin in. Then just pull the cylinder out by pulling the key. Inspect the bottom of the cylinder for breakage or wear. Also inspect its mating slot in the switch in the column for cracks etc.
If you see no damage then try cleaning the cylinder good and use some graphite powder to lube it.
While you have the cylinder out you can easily remove the upper cover and inspect the wiring. With tilt steering it is common to have wiring issues in the column since it moves the wires alot, they can rub through or pull a pin out of a connector.
