check engine light question
Does my check engine light have to be on to pull a code? When check engine light came on, I disconnected the battery cable whick caused the light to go off. I took car to local Autozone so they could pull a code. No code was detected. I recently removed a fuse, diabling the tcs/abs system. Could this be the cause of a check engine light?

I had my 95' Millinia for over 7 years now bought it used and 2 years after owning the car check engine light came on. Practically had almost every engine parts removed for necessary reasons and to this day check engine light persist. My advise-live with it as long as it runs great.....
lite needs to be on for any codes to be stored. pcm is always checking, if the problem goes away, after a few cycles, pcm turns the lite off
and erases the code. in some cases, driving with the lite on can lead to permanent engine damage. most parts places have a scanner
they will let you use for free, or they will scan it for you, and you can see what codes are stored. in some cases, when the lite is on, the
system is open loop, and running on factory default maps, which means less performance and fuel economy. if you are too dumb or lazy to
pull the codes, i have no pity for you
