1995 Millenia jerks and surges at high speeds
My 1995 Mazda Millenia 2.5L surges and jerks at high speeds and sometimes in city driving. I had the fuel filter replaced and the distributor replaced......it used to stall at high speeds but the new distributor seems to have corrected that. Any ideas why it surges and jerks..........feels like it's trying to shut off????

try some injector cleaner first, but im not too confident in those things. Id just pull em and soak em in carb cleaner, and blow em out with air, and if you have alot of time and dont need the car, send them into a place that ill do sonic cleaning on them. you could also have some sort of dumb vaccume hose, or hole in your intake tract that would do this. check to see also if any of your sensors are unplugged.

Hey whats up beemer, I had that same problem with my 2001 2.5L. I would have the injectors cleaned and pressured out like falcon said but after that is all said and done i would actually start puting supreme gas in your car, you should actually start doing that right now. I dont know if your year model is the same as mine but these millenias recommened supreme gas cause they are apparently high octane motors. If i were to put regular gas in my car it would start running like crap, knock sensor would start throwing a code, and whats going on with you would happen to me as well. Believe it or not when i started to run on 93 octane my car never did that again, now my car would actually shut off though so maybe my situation was different but i would would start puting that better gas in there. I know it sucks cause of gas prices these days but its worth puting the extra 12 cents on the gallon cause it makes your car ride a hell of a lot better. You should deff. do the injectors though, i would not the injector cleaners cause thoughs things are a waste of time and money. keep me posted

Had that same problem, we did everything 100 octane, new injectors, major tuneup, and this was the dealer. I eventually took it to I of my mechanic friends that had just graduated from one of the tech schools you see on tv and was sponsored by mazda. He told me that there is a malfunction with some of the 2.5 transmissions. The problem is the syncro(sp?). Wehad it replaced at the tune of $400+. Even the Mazda dealer said that he was not so sure that it would fix the problem. Well needles to say 12,000 mi+ I have not had any problems with the surging. Now thats not to say that a combination of things helped, but definately the synchros in the transmission did the trick.

Anyone know the size of the OEM distributor rotor cam. Im buying a reman part from a store and they have two sizes, .526 and .475, which should I use? Does it matter which I use? I have a 2.5L. PM please

huh? is this a trick answer? all the millenias in the usa have automatic transmissions. automatic transmissions do NOT have synchros. even if they did, which they dont, to replace synchros in a transmission means dropping the trans, and taking it apart. NOT gonna happen for only 400 bucks. unless labor where you are is about 25 bucks/hr. synchros have nothing to do with surging. beemer, start with the basics. first, was this an all of a sudden thing, or gradually over time? have you looked for air leaks? cracks in the intake boot are common. do you know if your car is obd2, and is the ce lite on?

I have an 02 2.5L model with 58k. Had the same issue. Installed OEM plugs, wires, cap & rotor no difference. Only use premium gas. Took to local dealership and was charged $155 for injector cleaning and cleanout of carbon buildup in ERG valve. Runs normal now.
