I need help. I have a 99 Mazda Millenia S. The problem is that it changes gears from 1st to 2nd at about 30-40 km of speed and jerks. And also while changing gears from 1st to 2nd & 2nd to 3rd it gives this rattling sound like if metal is hitting metal. Now I only hear that sound when it changes gears. At high speeds it drives like a beauty, no problem at all. Now one of my friends said it could be the torque converter. I want to be sure, so I want a second opinion.

 

1st gear is mean't to get you going, under normal driving you shouldn't be in it long at all, check your tranny fluid to see if its dirty, if its red and doesn't smell burnt then you should be fine, tranny should be flushed every 30k
