Default Guidance

Longtime fan of Miatas, all the goodness of old Brit sportscars, without the oil leaks or Lucas electrics.
Getting to the age where, if I want one, better get my rear in gear.
Longtime motor head, VW Sciroccos and Honda CRX Si, still love great handlers despite a bunch of Jeeps and a Subie Outback Wilderness. Tangent roads are the exception here in Westsylvania.
Current ride is a Beemer M340, which is a superb car in so many ways, but something smaller and much more analog sounds good.
Anyway, new is a consideration, a few years old would be fine...any reasonably recent generations that are especially favored? Any to avoid?
Frankly, need to see if my bride and I can actually get in and out of one, and I may simply keep the Beemer (and its extended warranty).
Thanks in advance,
Dan

Joseph Lucas made a statement once "gentlemen do not motor after dark" for an obvious reason.
