Default 2000 miata not starting when engine warm

Own a 2000 model. Very low mileage. Recently being having starting problems. They have been intermittent. After purchasing a new battery, problem occurred again. Took it our regular mechanic. Battery, starter and alternator all checked out. Started for him each time.

Does crank but does not fire to make it run. Happens mainly when the engine is warm. Someone suggested it may be the cam sensor.

One mechanic indicated the EGR valve was sticking but I am hestitant to sink $500 into repairs if that is not the poroblem.

Any help or suggestions are are appreciated.
