Default Melted side panels

I’ve watched a tv report about some cars having melted reflective side panels due to energy saving windows nearby reflecting sunlight.

Side panel plastic

Side panel reflective plastic

This has happened to my car rather severely. Does anyone think I should be not required to pay more than 50% for parts and labor for something such as this. It was nothing I did to have this happen.

I welcome your thoughts.

Best Regards,
Jacob

Is this the original side panel (pillar)? It looks aftermarket for me. If that is the case?! Just remove it and the glue under it to reveal the original panels or install new ones like in the link below:

I can’t be sure if they are the originals since I purchased it used. I’m fairly confident though that they are the original. Seems like some owners have these problems with other cars as well due to energy efficient windows in close proximity to a car. I don’t want to do this work myself as I’m not that handy. I would like Mazda to do the replacement but I certainly don’t feel as 25% off the cost of replacement is fair since this was not done by me or fault of my own.

thank you for the feedback!
