Default engine oil for 2013 CX-9

Hi, does anybody know what kind of engine oil the 2013 CX-9 use? the manual only says 5W-20 but didn't specify if it is synthetic or conventional. I called up Mazda USA but the phone rep also had no idea and directed me to the local dealership. Ironically, I don't think my dealership knows. Every time when I go get an oil change, I always hear a different answer. They ended up telling me they will just use whatever is in my car.

You can use any oil you like as long as the *vehicle manufacture does not specify the word REQUIRED!

I would however for ease and for the sake of amateur hour member response to use at least a synthetic blend or full synthetic motor oil and use the viscosity on the oil cap (i.e. 5w-20) , again this is for the sake of members responding that run to the internet thinking they find the correct answers yet often times only read surface information and not do better research about any given subject.

*The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is the federal law that governs consumer product warranties. Passed by Congress in 1975

Use any name brand 5W-20, conventional or synthetic. The current spec for engine oil is API Service Category SP and ILSAC GF-6A. These labels just show that the oil is the newest and best spec. Synthetic oil has the advantages of not thinning as much in very hot weather and not thickening in frigid cold. It also may be good for more miles, but don't exceed the owner's manual recommendations. There is no need to get the oil changed more frequently that shown in the owner's manual. If you operate in difficult circumstances, say extremely dusty or extremely cold, follow the owner's manual severe service schedule. If you don't have an owner's manual, the parts counter at a dealership can tell you where to get one. The 2013 owner's manual will call for the specs for the oils that were current at the time, maybe ILSAC GF-3 or GF-4, but those are obsolete and out of production. The newest always is compatible and supersedes older standards. It doesn't matter if you get Pennzoil or Castrol or Mobil or Valvoline or any other top oil. They're all excellent. Do get a good oil filter. Don't get the cheapest. The oil change place will tell you that the oil you need is the one they happen to get the best bulk price on this year, and there will be nothing wrong with it.

Good response...
I did laugh...
Not sure why the "cost" of a filter has anything to do with anything? LOL
I think I know what you meant.. but will keep from responding about it at this point !
