NEW TIRE IMPRESSIONS AFTER 1,700MILES Monday, May 2, 2016
Update - 2014 MAZDA CX-5Grand Touring. Original TOYO tires 225/55-19 were down to 4 /32” before 22,000 miles with lots of tire noise and arough ride. I had Michelin Premier LTX installed in one size larger 235/55-19 as their reviews were superior.
I was looking for a treadwear warranty (60k miles) and a smoother & quieter ride. Michelin tires have always proved superior for our cars for over 45 years of using them. We have been constantly pleased with Michelins.
Alas, the new Michelins in 101V rating were no smoother in ride quality. And not much quieter unless on a very smooth roadway. Pronounced Tire-Slap is heard when crossing tar snakes, crossing different pavement changes or rough surfaces, or crossing concrete expansion joints. When working hard during aggressive cornering the tires start out with a moan that increasesin volume and pitch as they start to reach their limits (although I have not yet reached their limits.)
Tom in Brentwood CA . Update will be posted in June

After a Pacific Ocean to Atlantic Ocean 7,000 mile driving trip and return I have an update on the new Michelin Premier LTX installed in one size larger 235/55-19 tires:
June 10, 2016. More feedback after 8,200 miles on these tires:
Tire wear great- measure the same 8/32" as before 7,000 cross countrytrip. Rebalance and aired to 35 psi and tread was even. Tried 32 psi to lessenroad noise but found no benefit and have returned to 35-36 psi. Tires stilllook brand new. Same "slap" heard on pavement changes as before andthe tires still sing or hum when cornering very hard, but on smooth pavement they are quite quiet and very smooth riding. Ride comfort has improved(or maybe I just got used to it.) Very pleased with these Michelins and expectat least 60,000 miles out of them. 29+ MPG on this trip which was mostly at 70-80 MPH. I now have to rate these highly superior to the Toyo tires and I expect 3 times the wear out of them while appreciating the smoother ride.

So, you mechanic is advising against a set of Michelin's because they wear long enough to become susceptible to dry rot? I too live in FL and swear by Michelin's. No blow outs, long tread life and no dry rot-ever. Traction in wet weather is excellent.
