MathewR - Welcome and congrats on the new CX-5. Sounds like a unique version with a manual tranny, I have yet to see one of those at local dealers.

You probably saw the recent news about IIHS safety ratings. The CX-5 was a "top safety pick" with high ratings in all categories, ideal for a family car.

We were only looking at IIHS top picks, really. It was a pretty big strike against to not attain Goods across the board considering how many cars in the segment have. Had the CX-5 not been one we might very well have not gotten one.

No desire to get into an accident, of course, but if we do, we'd like the best chance possible of walking away.

Joining the CX5 family. Trading in my 6 speed 2006 Jeep Wrangler for a base 6 speed in Metro Gray. I have been looking to get rid of the Jeep for quite some time and purchased this vehicle after know about it for under a week. It has everything I want in a car. The slow acceleration does not bother me as I have driven a JEep the passed 4 years but the manual transmission definitely helps.
Looking forward to seeing some mods!

Congrats on the new CX-5, the manual should be fun.

The improvement in gas mileage will be significant. What kind of gas mileage did you get with the Jeep?

I would average anywhere from 14-15 MPG in the Jeep. Hoping I will average double in the CX5. As I drive I will post more info.

Ok 4 day's into my cx5 ownership, really like the ride and driveability.
Only getting 23/24mpg so far but i guess it will get better after my first oil change.
Maybe because i come from a mazdaspeed3 i have a lead foot but that's what im getting.
I kind of wonder how you guy's get a 30mpg consumption.
I dont like they auto transmission that doesnt want a downshift in first at stop sign.
You have to hammered the gas to get it to dowhshift or you come to a complete stop wich i dont do often.
Other than that im pretty much happy with my new ride.
More comment to come.

Sure, I get well over 30MPG highway. Not combined though. And I get that because I have a manual front wheel drive. The auto loses like 3 MPG highway. The AWD costs MPG as well.

You're still likely to get as good MPG as any other compact SUV though.
