Warranty cover?
Dont count on good will , courtesy service , I looked at the R&R and its is costly as a none warranty general service procedure so Labor hours x current labor rate retail and say - 15% allowance returned to dealer if Mazda approved . And applying it to a straight warranty request it came up as not applicable.
oh forgot this is USA and Canada Mazda Warranty independent authorized service shop information and comparing what we have with Mazda regarding non US sold Mazdas it is pretty much the same thing.

I emailed the Dealership i brought it from as i got the car not from my local Dealership
they have replied and said he thinks it may be covered by the warranty but will need to inspect its booked in on the 10th for mazda to inspect it
He also told me the £750 towards MOT failure is only valid at a Mazda dealer I think that's unfair as MOT stations are approved buy VOSA surly they are the same but that's just the way it is i suppose
I'm not holding my breath as im told its an expensive fix
disappointed in only having the car 9 months
R&R = Remove and Replace.
I am an approved service Technician for most all Mazda Warranty service. But that’s only for US .
I was only suggesting that you get a better answer about the leak before you pay a fee only to find out it is not covered. I would also suggest you get both an estimate from the dealership and an independent service shop for the seal replacement. It is a non-technical part replacement so any basic auto mechanic can do the work.
Good luck and I wish you well that your dealership takes care of you as a valued customer.

As for your direct question I hesitate to answer because it opens a pandora box of what my shop would do vs other service shops, and this includes any dealership platform.
Basically, I assign to my Techs and many times service myself (owner always rolls his eyes) in the shop a considerably amount of service for free to keep our customers as well make future ones.
If it is a "good will" service, there is not much to say about that. They will not likely get credit back from Mazda corp. Dealerships are really independently owned and operated business that simply have a contract with MAZDA to and agree to their business operating terms. So generally speaking, if a service is done not covered by the Mazda warranty the dealership makes zero income/profit. They did you a courtesy my thought is I would not comp0lain.

Id of just assumed as the dif was weeping oil they'd of replaced the pair of seals not just a single I'm not in the industry so wouldn't know what was right or wrong just found it odd only to do one and not the other
I'm not complaining as such

There is a difference in some things considered preventive maintenance.
Not really sure anyone would agree based on the many odds that would have to considered that if the other axle seal was not leaking why change it? There is also a basic responsibility to the service. if the seal is not leaking and they choose to change it then for whatever reason in the next 90 days it leaks now the shop would likely be responsible for doing the service again for the second tome for free!
