Default Voice Recognition for Phone calls

Every time I try and give a voice command " Call Mom" it will do something stupid like " 9"....I've even tried to put her in under another name and still it doesn't work.
Is there anyway to tweak this?
It's driving me nuts!

This seems to be a problem with many of the voice recognition systems. My daughter's new Outback can't "Call Mom" either, but it seems to work with everyone else in her phonebook.

Then again, maybe this is just further evidence that a mother's lament that her kids never call her is in fact true. But now the kids can blame it on Mazda!

Forgive me for asking, are you a native speaker? I am not, this is why the voice recognition doesn't always work with different answers.

Maybe it's an Indiana thing. My daughter lives in Indiana as well. Indiana girls just can't pronounce "mom" correctly?

Default Voice recognition issues

It took me a good half an hour to get the Mazda to recognise my common numbers to add them in to the system (I have a type A - no touchscreen -- curse work) . I have "trained" it by doing the voice training still having issues.
Every time I say seven it responds with "star one" ...
Every time I say two, it responds with "four"
(I tried with another person as well, same problem)
Eventually figured out if I say "sayn" it takes it as seven,
For two, i had to say "Thuuuu"
So for Mom you should try a few variations like mum -- mohm -- mhom etc.

PS: I think skyactive is crap. Shuts the engine down, just when i need to be reared to turn across traffic. Won't stay off. have to turn it off everytime i start the car.

Anyone go similar issues, and how did you overcome them?

What is it that you're turning off every time? Yeah i've noticed starting from a stop kinda sucks. I feel some vibration, then it kicks in. I guess thats the cylinder deactivation? I doubt it saves all that much fuel while idling, unless you're idling for a long time.

P.S. Just got a 2018 CX-5. Loving it so far! Radar cruise is so cool

rumj is referring to i-stop, Mazda's stop start technology, which for odd reasons, isn't offered in the American market. Personally I don't have a issue with it, you just need to learn how to manipulate it to your advantage.

Skyactiv on the other hand is Mazda's overall technology package, combining engine, transmission, suspension & chassis.
