Too good to be true trade-in deal?

Is the used car market really this hot right now? Got a message from our dealer offering about $29K trade-in for our CX-5 that we purchased 3.5 years ago for about $32K.

Yes Sir...it most certainly is. I just sold my vehicle for more than what I paid for it!

Downside is the new car market is just as hot. What you make on the trade-in, you loose on the "added dealer markup" - assuming you can find the new car you want.

Not entirely true if you are a smart shopper. Your above scenario did not apply to my situation.

Yeah, I am checking the new car inventory at my local Mazda dealer and the prices are pretty reasonable for the turbo-version 2021 CX-5. I am seriously considering it right now.
