I certainly could. A large percentage of folks who visit vehicle forums do so because they know very little about how their vehicle operates. Many don’t know enough to know how to ask, they just know they have a problem or question and they need help. If they are treated rudely they won’t be back - and we have lost a potentially valuable member.
Anyone who has much experience with internet forums knows that this behavior is extremely common across all disciplines. One reason for the existence of enthusiast forums - be they automotive or aeronautical or marine or basket weaving - is to provide help to those who need it. Elitist posturing and the demand that everyone must conform to the standards of “my world” does nothing to help others. It is pretty sad that some here appear to only want “their kind if people” to post on the forum. Shame.

"and we have lost a potentially valuable member." Obviously you and I have VERY different definitions of what a valuable member consists of... I've been around vehicle forums for many years now. Most likely, IMO, this person is one of those who ask a question, get an answer, only never to be heard from again. A potentially valuable member? One who knows so little that they can't even give us the basic info about what's going on with their car? As I said, I really do like to help folks when I can but I'm not going to drag the info out of them for this. It's too much to ask just for that warm feeling of being helpful.
"A large percentage of folks who visit vehicle forums do so because they know very little about how their vehicle operates. Many don’t know enough to know how to ask" You don't have to have any knowledge of the inner workings of a car to describe the problem you are having with it in more detail, do you? More than just 'my car won't start and I have to go to work'.
Tell you what CarpeDiem, I'm going to try and shut up and just watch as you help the OP, ok?
Good luck.
Conrad the Elitist out.
