I am trying to sell my 2019 Mazda Miata MX5 RF. This care is beautiful! However people who have looked to buy it are surprized by all the white chips and have declined to buy it! I got touch up paint, but it is way off on color. A friend in the autobody repair business is adding black to the touch up paint to get it closer and he also gave me the clear coat. Do you think this will work? Will I make it worse? This is frustrating. Will Mazda make good on repairing this paint?

 

Talk to Mazda. Many have had success with having them repair the paint. It is worth a try.

 

Thank you. I called Mazda Customer Care 800-222-5500 and they were very helpful. Said to make an appointment with a dealer to take pictures. Very pleasant. She will stay in touch with me til the problem is resolved. I have an appointment with a local dealer for this Thursday. I'll let everyone know what the result is.

 

My just sold cx3 was completely repainted, with the exception of the rear bumper, dealer did it without discussion, it was a 2019 model.

 

I looked at a 2019 CX-5 Signature in soul red and passed on it. I don't think I would have noticed all the chips if not for this forum, but they were definitely there. This included a few on the rear liftgate, which I would not have expected from a car this age.

Unfortunately for this particular vehicle, the pandemic disinfecting requirements had the dealer use something too aggressive and all of the piano black interior (console and doors) were marred and scratched. I hope whoever bought it had the dealership replace those trim pieces.

 

I owned a 2017 Mazda CX-5 with soul red paint. After just 10,000 miles, the car had over 100 paint chips, mostly on the hood and front bumper. I contacted Mazda USA, and they had a representative meet me at the dealer to inspect the car. Mazda agreed there was a problem with the paint and had the entire car repainted. Soon after having the car repainted, the new paint started to chip as bad as the original paint. I finally just gave up and recently traded the car in for a new Subaru. I feel bad for the person who buys my Mazda, they are in for a lot of heartache.

Greatly disappointed to see the issues about the Sour Red Crystal Metallic paint. Love that color and that's the color of my 2021 CX-5. However, I had a clear bra (Xpel: full hood wrap, front end and fenders, door cups and edges) installed immediately after buying it and before there were any paint chips. I hope that maybe the chipping issues will pass me by.

Otherwise the car seems to be a good one, but only have 300 miles on it so far. Thanks to all who shared and I hope you all get your concerns properly addressed.

 

You are probably ok on your paint.There were only two or three years that was reported as a problem.

By the way, my 2014 is Soul Red; I haven't seen Sour Red.

 

I have the 2017 CX-5. Love the color, but the chipping is out of control. Since the car will be 4 years old in a couple months, I'm not going to worry about it. It will be traded in or sold for a Model Y, as soon as Tesla comes out w/ the three row version. Will be getting a blue performance model. Mazda doesn't have the "zoom-zoom" anymore. Tired of hitting the gas, and not having any oomph pulling me forward. Wish I could put the soul red on the Tesla. Everyone always complements the color.
