Default oil fill plug washer

New to this CX-5. Never changed a fill plug washer before. Every plug I've ever seen just has a flange on the bolt and possibly a plastic washer. Never changed the plastic one either. Do I need to change this each time I change oil? I notice the bolt has ridges in it to score the washer like a copper brake system washer. The oil pan does not have those ridges.

Technically you should change it..... do we all change them every time....guessing I would say no!

I would suggest that you get a few just to have around so next time you will not be caught without having a new one to change.

Now on the technical side...yes you should change them every-time you remove the drain plug. All of them made from nylon, fiber, copper, aluminum etc. will crush to some degree and make a unique pattern when the drain plug is tight which insure an oil tight seal leak free seal also resistance on the plug that prevents it from backing out and leaking oil.

Mazda drain plug washer change. new one in my hand .

The workshop manual says to replace the drain plug washer everytime the drain plug removed.

Ive had repair manuals for most of my cars except I can’t find one for this car.
Its easier to page through it in the garage while working on something than running back and forth to house to look at computer. Where can I get a manual?

Howdy and welcome to the forum.
You are in USA/NY
Go to Rock Auto and you can buy a dozen for a couple bucks.

fill in your vehicles info then go to ENGINE and then OIL DRAIN PLUG GASKET

Thank you, I have bookmarked this page earlier in the day. I bought the car with 28k on it so I'm planning on doing brake fluid, transmission and differential drain and fill. Despite what the manual says I like to get in there every 30k miles just for peace of mind and also to have a look around and make sure everything is good.
