Default Need help installing dashcam on 2024 CX-5

I recently bought a 2024 CX-5 Select and could use some help installing my dashcam. I've seen that some other CX-5 owners were able to reconnect the rearview mirror to an adapter, but they were from earlier years and the layout inside the rearview mirror cover has changed. I know the metal part on the right is the Forward Sensing Camera, but what is the black plastic part on the left? Is that the rearview mirror connection I should be adapting? If so, how would I go about accessing the plug? It doesn't seem easily removable.

It's a rain/humidity sensor.
Do you have autodimming rearview mirror? If not, there is no power to the mirror.
I'd recommend proper installation through a-pillar to the fuse box with separate fuse.

Thanks @institor ! That makes sense, mine is not an autodimming mirror. Will look into the fuse box solution.
Another option I've seen is using the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD), any thoughts on using that versus the fuse box? I believe the FitCamX uses this for installation.

I see no reason to mess with OBD, fuse box is much more convenient and you can use
 fuse extender fuse extender
to make installation completely reversible and unpluggable.

The OBD connector is often used as a power switched access for many things . There are cable and or adapters to connect and use the proper pin. This WILL NOT harm your ECU in anyway.

In many applications it is better to tap off the power from the OBDII Diagnostic Connector then doing a tap into a fuse box terminal. Just make sure your accessories used are self fused or add a fuse to protect your accessories. However the Diagnostic connector is circuit protected.

The only mentioned thought and While I know it is possible have never I countered it happening is loss or delay in sensor reporting if to many monitoring devices are used at the Diagnostic connector. But I have installed full access PID reporters and Tachometer, drive-by-wires all from a 1 in and 3 out Diagnostic connector accessories cable on several platforms and a many different model vehicles and never saw or data logged any signal degradation or delay .

Currently on my Skyactiv 2018 Mazda 3 I have a Aftermarket Tachometer and Ultra-gauge on a 1 in and 3 out OBDII cable plugged into my Diagnostic Connector . The third I use to Data log my ECU operation and also change by way of up loading custom ECU calibration files .

My front and Rear Dash Cams are connected to the spare fuse area under the hood for the continuous power having to do with my vehicles security system and tapped into the power switched pin on one of my OBDII cables.

OBD connector power is fused at 7.5A (pin 16) and there is other circuits on this fuse (PCM, current sensor).
