Hi revs at start up
Hi all. Can any one help. I purchased a 2013 cx5 diesel sport nav 5 month ago. And now most of the time I start it up it revs up to 1900rpm for around 20seconds then dies down to normal tick over. As if it's on choke. Is this normal? No lights on dash runs perfect. Could it be something to do with re gen 🤷♂️ thanks

My 2016.5 is a 2.5L gas GT. When cold, on start-up it heads right to ~1250rpm, stays there a few dozen seconds, then gradually settles down to the normal ~750-800rpm setting. I'd be surprised if a "modern" car didn't normally do that sort of thing; they all seem to, when cold.
This past couple of years, I've started the vehicle in all sorts of weather, from 105ºF down to as low as -12ºF. And it behaves similarly, so long as the engine's cold enough to not require that initially higher RPM for awhile. I'm sure it's a setting in the ECU/maps that direct when to adjust the RPMs. I'm sure one or more of the resident wrenchers, on the forum, can chime in with the specifics.

The ECU has a different programing diesel than gas engines and should not be compared.
I dont work on them enough and maybe lets wait for grim_reaper who works on many more as a Mazda Service Technician
I will say that 1900 seems a bit high and generally that is sensor issue? But will see what Grim thinks?
