No shaming here, it is a matter of fact that newer vehicles with enhanced electronics need to be done exactly by the book.
Otherwise, you'll have additional steps that need to be done, as you found out, or you could end up with major issues that you can't solve.
The EPB is the main reason I personally no longer do my own brake service; one misstep and it can cost you more than to have the repair done by a professional.
People are free to express their own mechanical abilities and receive whatever outcome they get by doing so.
At my stage in life, I prefer not to risk the cost or the stress and headaches of those repairs I'm not certain of.
Plus, it's hard for me to get back up once I manage to lower myself to the ground
