Default Cx5 Daytime Running Lights question

I recently got a 2025 cx5 s select and I noticed that sometimes while I’m driving, the daytime running lights(circled in red) are on, while other times, they are off, and replaced by the headlights, even during the daytime. I noticed that while the headlights are functioning as the DRLs, the light on the dash for the headlights is not illuminated. Obviously it doesn’t really matter I was just wondering if anyone knew why.

If you leave your lights on auto, you should be perfectly fine. Sometimes the DRLs turn off when stopped and kick back on when moving again.

In auto mode, your headlights are operated by an ambient light sensor. In overcast and rainy/snowy conditions, the ambient light is low enough for the car to turn the headlights on automatically. The sensitivity of the auto headlight and high beam functions are adjustable.
