Cx 5 oil consumption
Nice setup. I used to do that kind of stuff on my vehicles, but, now, with my bad back and hip and, at my age, no expectation of improvement, I can't get into the places I need to reach to do it and, if I make the attempt, I spend two to three days recovering in the Lazy Boy. Getting old is the pits, but it beats the alternative.
LOL I understand completely... I just had a birthday and my dad forgot, I told him I don't really need to be reminded anymore every year I am getting older.

By the way if you want to see my MAZDA thread you might like it. VERY DIY.

At 15,000mi and less then a year after delivery of my 2021 CX-5 AWD 2.5T - I got low engine oil light the day before my scheduled engine oil change (dealer). Oil change every 5k at the dealer. At 10k the dealer set the service interval to 5,000mi, and I am curious if the oil was low then and I just didn't get the light?? Of course they said nothing.
Found this thread, curious if anyone has any updates? I went in to the oil change with the TSB and print out of P250F engine code. Thanks to everyone that shared info.
After preliminary inspection, service called: engine and cabin filters need to be replaced (when don't they at the dealer) and the engine oil was low, Mazda is aware of the issue. Some how I am at $115 for the oil change. Declined paying $80 more to replace filters. Now I feel like the only way to keep my car on Mazda radar is to get over priced dealer oil changes.
I guess the next step is to call Mazda.

my cx-5 is burning oil 15,000 miles. the low oil light comes on before my oil changes. i’ve always had the car serviced at mazda. i’m so fed up with dealing with the low oil. I don’t want this car anymore i’m so mad that mazda has not given me any kind of answer. i had a cx7 in 09 with the same issues!!! I should have learned the first time… please mazda get back to me i’ve sent tons of emails to mazda and my dealership i’ve gotten nowhere…. and i’m starting to get angry this is going to effect other issues in my car going forward.
I've read reports recently from 2 people, saying that their dealers had received a tool from Mazda, which is related to this oil consumption issue. No information about the tool, and nothing so far in print released from Mazda as of today.
I'll speculate by saying that this is most likely a tool designed to facilitate removal and reinstallation of valve components, in order to be able to change out the valve stem seals without removing the head from the block. And this whole thing is probably going to be a slow process for owners, with some type of oil consumption testing being required in order for the repair process to be approved by Mazda.
But regardless if I'm right about those things not, at least it appears that Mazda has made a decision on how they're going to proceed, and that this oil consumption issue should eventually be fixed for all affected vehicles.

2021 carbon edition...same oil consumption problem. Please file a complaint with the NTHSB at https://www.nhtsa.gov/, it takes two minutes and since Mazda is draggings their feet, time to hold those feet to the fire.
Mazda's offers no solution while admitting "Since this issue has been reported after a valve stem seal modification, it is very likely that valve stem seal damage is causing oil to leak into the combustion chamber." They are being negligent and it's our vehicles at risk. It might not cause "immediate" damage, it is fouling the cylinders, plugs and exhaust parts. Unacceptable!

Mazda tech here. Assuming you have the 2.5 turbo, we put 5.5 quarts of oil in. Factory requires 5.3 quarts. Like all motors, these do burn oil. Why does the old Mazdaspeed 2.3 turbo motor require 6 quarts? Because it burns it like a ****.
The logic of the monitor that looks at oil pressure is very sensitive. Better safe than sorry right? That extra .3 quarts is enough to not trip the sensor. You most likely did not do any damage to the motor.
5.5 quarts on your oil change and you wont have issues. If you drive the **** out of it, check your oil every now and again.

sure, you want to tear down the motor to replace valve seals? nope. Dealerships don't do that, they just swap the entire head with a newer, updated one. If there isn't a newer, updated one, than it wont happen. As the technician that does this work, I would much rather change valve stems than swap the head, but that's just how they operate.
Clearly it's not a big enough problem (yet) for them to issue a recall, or they would have. Quite possible that they haven't nailed the issue down they either.

I do agree with you that Mazda is unlikely to do a recall, at least not right away anyway. My guess would be that they would approve the job when consumption is worse than some benchmark, based on oil consumption testing. That way these repairs can begin gradually, without swamping you guys with a big pile of them at the same time. If they start it more or less like that, then I guess time will tell how many of the affected vehicles actually do get repaired.
