I have a '21 GTR - 2/21 build date- with 10k miles. No oil consumption as of yet.

Interesting data point. Based on the TSB, this might suggest that between 3/21 and 9/21, Mazda temporarily sourced turbo engine valve stem seals from a different supplier (supply chain issues?), which turned out to be defective?

I would bet this is the case, We are doing the same at work- buying items from different vendors just to get stuff going but they are often lousy. That is why they are left !

I can only hope this turns out to be the case. Time will tell if my motor has the issue, or not.

I was at the dealer in NH for my second complimentary oil change and brought up the valve seal TSB for the 2021 Turbos. I talked to the shop foreman about it and he attended a class concerning this issue. He said he heard that possibly the valve seals for the DIESEL engine mistakenly were installed in these engines. Holy hell I can't wait to see what the fix might be. So far my car (2021 Mazda 6 GTR) with 4700 miles has no oil consumption yet.

I don't have an answer, but I am nervous that my '21 Signature is burning oil at an accelerated rate.

Hello Frank,

Have your issue been resolved? I am having the same issue with my 2022 signature. In my case, the dealer is sending the case to Mazda. But I am not too optimistic since a mechanic told me that as per Mazda 1lt oil consumption every 1000 km is in the spects.....

I'm afraid that I do not have all my service records in front of me right now. I do recall that I went through 15,000 miles (3 oil changes) of trying to get the repair approved and done. Finally, with my persistence and the photo, they agreed to the repair. Since that was done, I have accumulated 24,000 more miles (4 oil changes, with the next 1,000 miles in the future) and I have not had to add a drop of oil. In fact, my dipstick has not measured any discernable drop in oil level since the valve guides were replaced. I am currently at 47,000 miles on the odometer.

My feeling was that Mazda corporate set a specific set of conditions to be exhibited before the tsb procedure would be approved. My dealership did their best to comply with those requirements, but I was always way out of town when the light came on. The photo and the repeatability of my issue finally convinced everyone that I was being honest. The service department was great, and I've been very happy ever since.

I have a turbo Signature. Absolutely love the car, and Mazda's ultimate follow-through with what was clearly a factory error has ensured that I will buy another Mazda when the time comes.

Best of luck with your situation, JoLee. Persistence worked for me. Modern cars should NOT require an oil top-off, especially when the Oil Change Interval is only 5k miles. I hope that you can reach a satisfactory solution.

Ya well it not all that easy!! Honestly we find that there are more people that come into the shop that just don't know how to properly read the dipstick and now I am seeing a lot of this on this forum as well other Mazda forums.
There is also a growing paranoid over the SMALL numbers of verified engine oil usage issue that is now blown way out of portion. Buts that how things are on most any topic that the internet supports now!
And frankly you wording that the dealership in your words "comply with those requirements" from Mazda corp. NO THEY DONT. What they BORG lol. But I understand you interpretation of how things were done. Go read your final service invoice again.

I am only pleased that your experience resulted in your satisfaction, but I also followed what you wrote in your several responses which is in your story how you experienced I am just pleased that you are now a happy Mazda owner again.
