I didn't read the complete thread but I did look at the reason these cables failed.
LOL when you read it I am sure you will as well? I did not verify it source or if it is fact and epically correct just funny!
(disclaimer, I did not look any further because I cannot find the replacement cable as required at least by USA that preplacement parts must be available for 10 years after any production date of a vehcle and or a replacement part if one is discontinued)

What was the problem with Mazda BFD1-46-500 cables?
The problem with the Mazda BFD1-46-500 cables primarily revolved around their failure to shift into the correct gear. This issue was often attributed to the driver missing the shift or exceeding the engine's rev limit. The design of the shift control cable was intentionally such that it would fail under these conditions, which Mazda engineers seem to have designed for.
