(plus with this CX-5 forum only getting a half dozen threads (and often less) updated every day, I'm not sure that we should assume that this forum is the global clearing house for all problems)

I never said the issue is widespread. In fact, I acknowledged that "few have had an issue"
That said, given that:
I own several trucks, two jeeps, a toyota tacoma and two utility tractors, all with manual transmissions. I'm a casual member of forums for each of those and have never seen a "gear shift lever no longer works" thread in any of them.
Zero is the ideal number of reported problems to find on such a simple (but critical) vehicle component.

That said, given that:
- Less than one in twenty CX-5s sold in US (when they were sold here) have manual transmission
- Mazda USA sold so few CX-5s with manual transmission that they quit selling them here entirely several years ago

This is a non-issue as far as being a common or systemic issue. I crawled around the internet looking for posts of bad cables and found a little over a dozen. A dozen internet claims against millions of vehicles. Parts sometimes break. If they break, fix it. Simple, easy, parts readily available. No one likes repairs yet they exist just like toilets and showers.

*Again*, the point I'm making isn't that there are many vehicles with this problem. Main concern is that some Mazda 3 owners with a similar problem were left high and dry with the replacement parts out of production. Do some looking for 2012 Mazda 3s, and you'll find many threads complaining that the replacement cable (part number BFD1-46-500) is no longer available (removed from production in 2019) and the aftermarket parts that have been tried by many do not work.
The Drive did a story on this in July 2024.
For the few CX-5 owners that have had (and will have) this problem, it'd be a real crapper if Mazda was to quit offering the replacement part.

I've had this issue; over my many years of motoring [in my 70's now], driving many marques, I've never ever
suffered such a failure.
Just collected a 2025 model, TAKUMI spec, which may only be offered in some markets.
Disappointed that we still don't have individual TPMS capability

The gear cable went on our 2019 CX5 today, it has only done 33,000 miles. Had to get it towed to local garage who are charging £280 for parts and labour will be additional.
I would have never have expected this level of wear and tear on a car with such low mileage. Very disappointed. I will contact our Mazda dealership tomorrow and ask for their opinion

Not sure what you guys think whether watchdog or Martin Lewis or some sort of trading standard claim should be raised by all of us .Hi guys, we live in the UK. Have a 2019 CX-5. Very disappointed from a so-called reliable Japanese manufacturer Our gear selector cable has snapped at only 32,000 Miles, Mazda UK would not take responsibility, And conveniently the garage that we bought it from has now left Mazda and opened up in a new name and they were all useless. When we rang all the mazdas in South London they had no availability to fix it or a courtesy car so we had to go private to the garage we trusted. This is a manufacturing fault and we all should be getting together as a group claim against Mazda. The part that we had to get for Mazda we were told is an upgraded cable and you can see from the thickness that it was improved after manufacturer. So it is a fault that needs to be rectified by a recall and anyone who is paid out like us to have it repaired should be compensated.

Without knowing those facts it's merely conjecture on your part and your opinion that it is "happening like clockwork".
If you believe it to be true than you should be attempting to get that information instead of complaining on a forum which, except for venting purposes, will give you zero satisfaction.
