I had a similar frustration in 2011 when I bought a 2011 Sonata SE non-turbo when they first came out. I traded it in with 32,000 miles for a 2011 Sonata SE Turbo late in the model year. With the loyalty rebate and the favorable used car market at the time (after the earthquake in Japan in 2011 used car values in the US went up temporarily), my loss was minimal. I would have never known it would have been reasonable if I didn't ask.

My question is: How much would be involved to add the turbo to a non-turbo engine? Is it simply buying and installing the turbo and a few extra parts that need to be upgraded or is it a massive undertaking needing a new engine block or something?
Guys, I have changed my mind! I am not going to trade in my 2019 CX-5 GT AWD (non-turbo) with a 2019 CX-5 GTR AWD (turbo) for now. After the recall for the Cylinder Deactivation last Wednesday, i feel my CX-5 has increased power on sudden acceleration from a stop light or when merging/passing on the expressway. It’s not “sluggish” anymore!

Edit: had I not changed my mind, it would have been okay with me if the price difference is more than $6,000 because my 2019 GT AWD, which I purchased last February, is already at 20+K miles and has chipped paint up front due to road salt last February and March, and the 2019 GTR will gain me the turbo engine, heated/ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, auto folding side mirrors, no Cylinder De-activation, more horsepower/torque, and I think more towing capability.

firefox111 - That is interesting and great news.

grim_reaper - Any guess if we are talking $1,000, $2,000 or $5,000 expensive?
