I like your reasoning, but it was done to lower emission and increase MPG for USA sales requirements. Plain and simple . For those that try outside the box you may find that unless you do some ECU calibration changes you may get different emission and MPG then what was listed on your platform ?
Many of us saw this happening a few years ago.
I would add that so many keep tossing around the idea that it engineers that come up with some concepts, sorry top burst your bubble that went away decades ago. While engineers play an important role there are not as many as once was working for automotive manufactures. This is also a funny thing because people keep suggestion it is MAZDA oil . Better see who what and where Mazda gets their oil from.
If things were so important or singularly owned and distributed they would have TM and patents on the products.
We already see that TSB seem to be no longer protected by trade mark laws and rights anymore.

Here the other thing on this thread I sincerely have doubt many will keep there Mazda more then 6 years and 150k miles anyway. Your choice of oil , filters, sparkplugs now will not make any difference in the trade in or retail sales value of your MAZDA!

Here's a Gen 2 CX-5 Owner's Manual for Lebanon, hot year round, only goes to 5W-30.

For those that treat the owner's manual with reverence, this means Mazda never stated higher weights than 5W-30 are acceptable for Gen 2, FWIW. (Unless you can find a Gen 2 manual from Australia that says otherwise, please link here if so). Keep us posted on your 5W-40 experience and if you stick with it.
This happened with the 2.5T as well. All of a sudden it supposedly makes 256hp starting in '22 where it was 250hp for many years previously. We also have the jump in torque from 310 to 320ft/lbs (using 93 octane gas) which showed up out of the blue in 2020.

In the case of the Mazda 3 it could be exhaust tuning. My 2006 BMW M Roadster is rated at 330hp which is 3hp less than the M3 with the identical motor supposedly due to exhaust differences.

Once again we have been down this road before.... clearly you sir need to visit a shop and get a DYNO test done so you can at least understand about power ratings. Also we have been on several threads that I have tried to show via imperial information that MAZDA does NOT post certified power number and therefore can post any power numbers they like.

See and read maybe understand if you can this?
Mazda does NOT participate with the certification

J2723_202110: Engine Power Test Code - Engine Power and Torque Certification - SAE International

Power and torque certification provide a means for a manufacturer to assure a customer that the engine they purchase delivers the advertised performance. This SAE Standard has been written to provide manufacturers with a method of certifying the power of engines to SAE J1349® or SAE J1995®.

Awesome, thanks. Any reason for the change from 10w30 to 5w30?

Most likely because Mazda is moving its new releases to 12 month 15,000km service intervals. Previously it was 12 months 10,000km..
