Default 4.5 or 5qts of oil for 2016 CX-5?

Changed my oil yesterday, I think the manual says 4.5 qts of oil, but after I put that in I kept checking and the dipstick always showed it was about a half quart or more low. I let it sit overnight and checked it again, still low so I put the other half quart in. Any of you guys noticed this? It ok to run it with 5 full quarts of oil?
I have the 2016 Touring AWD model.

I am in the same boat as you. Same car, same outcome. I put the whole 5 qts in, and it now sits right at the top dot.No problems noticed.

Many cars these days, regardless of manufacturer, will register a half-quart low when you refill with the recommended fill volume. I've run into this phenomena in cars made in the U.S., Japan, Germany, and Korea; I find myself wondering if the spec isn't written to help prevent overfilling of crank cases.

Are people following the correct procedure for checking the oil level?

1. Position the vehicle on level ground.

2. Warm up the engine to allow the engine oil temperature to reach 60 °C {140 °F} or more.

3. Stop the engine and wait for 5 min or more.

4. Remove the dipstick, wipe it cleanly, and reinstall it fully.

Note
• The engine oil amount indicated between the L and F marks on the dipstick is 1 L.
5. Remove the dipstick and verify that the oil level is between the MAX and MIN marks on the dipstick.

I won't argue that Grim_Reaper's response is the most correct. I just put five quarts in, I've not had any issues. The danger in truly overfilling, is if the crankshaft contacts the oil and churns it, causing it to foam, which doesn't lubricate at all. The engine seems to hold the half quart with no problem.
