Default 2017 CX 5 has Key Malfunction Light on Dash

Well I just purchased a 2017 CX 5 last Wednesday. I noticed that if I was outside the car the doors would not lock or unlock. I Google this and it said the battery in the remote may be bad. I replaced the 2025 battery and the door, and everything worked fine. Now I have on the dash a message stating I have a key system malfunction. I have tried everything list on the Internet. I called the dealer and they charge 300.00 to read and clear this. That is a little steep to just read it. I only have one original key, and I took it to a lock smith and he said since I only had one key he was scared to clear it. He said he need the four digit Incode number. And he could clear it if he had that number. We have the outcode number in hand. Does anybody know how to proceed? I have disconnected the battery for three hours, but I did not try unlocking and relocking the door before entry. Where do I go from here?

Get your vehicle battery load tested, a bad or failing vehicle battery can cause this problem as well.
The Mazda batteries do not last long, I didn't get two years out my OEM one.
If you still have the original 2017 battery it needs replacing.
I replaced mine with a top of line aftermarket but even that only has a 3-5 year life span due to all the electronics modern vehicles use 24/7.

Ditto. This is the best way to go.

Well I have no idea how old the battery is. I am not the original buyer. Maybe that is the problem. I will see if there is any informatiom on the battery.

Dont bother it does not matter unless the battery still has a warranty.

Go and get it Load tested! This is a no brainer...
The No. 1 most common cause of electrical and voltage control problems that come into our shop is a battery failing or bad. Just because your engine starts and you don't see the effects (yet) does not rule out the battery!
