Default 2016 CX-5 Yellow Wrench

I have the yellow wrench glowing on my recently acquired 2016 CX-5. The user manual is rather vague on what it means, suggesting something to the effect " it's time to take it in for service and the yellow wrench probably means an oil change is required". I get the oil change thing but why 'probably'? - what else would trigger the wrench lamp if it's not time for an oil change?

Due for a service, either on time or miles.

Since you're looking in the owner's manual check the section on maintenance reminders. You can find out what the yellow wrench is reminding you of once you enter the maintenance section of the infotainment system. It may be a reminder of an oil change or tire rotation.

Yes, I found that in the manual, but how does one know if the reminder is for an oil change or for a tire rotation, or ???

Edit - so the infotainment system displays what exactly needs to be 'serviced'?

My own vehicle is the 2016.5 CX-5. Your 2016 has the same basic section in the manual describing the settings as my own.

Look in the 2016 CX-5 Owner's Manual at p. 6-4, and then pp. 6-20 to -21. That should describe the two settings that control the "wrench" notification that one of your service reminders has come up.

a. Tire Rotation
b. Oil Change

Actually, there should be three settings in that menu. Each has a "reset" option for it. You can reset the whole system, or just the Tires, or just the Oil.

Myself, I've set the Tire and Oil settings to 5Kmi. As the mileage approaches the warning point (500mi, IIRC), the service "wrench" light appears, notifying me of the service coming soon. Works well. The shop resets the setting, if it's at the dealer; else I reset it, if the servicing was done elsewhere.

Thanks for that explanation.
