Default 2016 CX-5 Red Key Light & Brakes Locked

My 2016 CX-5 has a red light on the dash with a key that looks like this:

Name: GhoL9M6.jpg
Views: 1631
Size: 371.9 KB

The car starts just fine and runs great. When I put it in gear it won't move because the brakes are engaged. Online forums suggest that the key fob battery is dead but that isn't the case because I can lock/unlock doors using the buttons from a distance. There is also a yellow light that looks like the letter P in parenthesis, don't know if it's related. Any suggestions? Do you have a conventional Handbrake/parkbrake/ E-brake lever or the new electric handbrake/parkbrake/e-brake?

I have the new electric brake. When I operate it, it doesn't do anything and the "BRAKE" light does not come on.

Sounds like 2 different issues. The red key is simply telling you it is not sensing the key at that time. Probably a dead battery. The stuck ebrake is a separate issue. Have you had any work done under the hood? sounds like a wiring issue.

Red key issue: battery is not dead. Replaced the battery yesterday and problem still exists.

Brakes locked: No work has been done under the hood but I'll check wiring and connectors. Maybe something is loose.

Brakes locked: fixed it! had a loose ground wire in the center counsel. All good now.

Red key light: still scratching my head...

Where are you keeping the key/remote while driving? Have you tried putting it in different spots when driving?

Either way, its still under warranty, take it back to Mazda.
