Default Brand New CX-30 died while backing up

My car is exactly 1 week old. I had stopped at the store on after driving the car for about 15 minutes. As I was reversing out of my parking space, the car just died. Dash lights stayed on. I put the car in park and tried to restart the car and got an ignition error message. The car would not start. Finally, I put the fob up to the push start and was able to start the car that way. I had an "engine malfunction" error that remained. I brought the car in for service the next morning. They've told me the car "lost connection to the powertran for no apparent reason they could identify" and that I should bring it back if it happens again. I asked if this could happen on the highway at high speeds and they said "potentially" Has this, or anything similar, happened to anyone else? This is a MASSIVE safety concern and not at all acceptable! I feel incredibly nervous to simply take the car back and drive it around hoping this will not happen again. I asked them to open a case with Mazda Tech. Any thoughts?

Sorry to hear that. Seems to be a serious problem and interesting that they did not give you a loaner to inspect the car in greater detail. So apparently they could not figure out anything from the error codes?

I think no loaner because it is not the dealer from whichI purchased the car. That dealer is about 40 min from my house and I was not about to drive that distance with this potential problem occurring again. It is the dealer closest to my house that I will use for all service.I mentioned it was my only car, but no offer of a rental.

They told me that the error codes could confirm the car lost communication as I was backing up and that many systems in the car suddenly failed because of this (this was also confirmed on my My Mazda app when I received a bunch of notices of various systems like ABS, Headlights, Stability Control, etc all failing at that time). I hope Mazda Tech has some knowledge or idea of what could have happened and a suggestion for them to implement that will put my mind at ease.

When I asked them why it failed they responded that they did not know and could not replicate the problem.

Update. Mazda Tech had them run a bunch more tests and test drive. Still found nothing. They've told the service center to release the car to me. I just can't believe that this "potentially happening at high speeds" is a risk Mazda is willing to take. I've written to MazdaUSA as well and waiting to hear back. I'm not hopeful at this point.

Final conclusion from all at Mazda is that the car is safe. They could not find anything. Going to pick it up. Will let the forum know if it happens again.

Please let us know. Really bad that the error codes did not reveal anything but you said they did a diagnostic and did not find anything. If it happens again I would take it to the original dealer you bought the car from even if it is 40 min drive. You have documented the 1st failure. They should give you a loaner at that time and run a more detailed diagnostic of the car.

Hope all works out well.

These cars are so technologically sophisticated that they send all these warning messages... sometimes when nothing is wrong. We were getting all kinds of error messages re: safety features and as it turned out the front camera needed to be replaced. Mazda replaced it and we're back in love.

So, it happened again today. The car would not restart at all. I had it towed to the service center. Awaiting news.
