Default 1990 B2600i Ignition Clutch Safety Switch

Standard Ignition Clutch Starter Safety Switch P N Ns 68 - Picture 7 of 8This is the switch that's in my truck, but everything I find online says it's not compatible with my truck. I got the truck about 8 months ago and I need to really step on the clutch to start the truck. Could someone have installed the incorrect switch? The mounting bracket looks original. The part that is supposedly compatible with the truck definitely does not fit with this bracket. Has anyone else run into this issue? I appreciate any input.

It's an added safety device and many cars of that age didn't have them. If there's no adjustment you could try a dab of solder on the end of the button. Me I would just bypass it.

That looks like the clutch pedal safety interlock switch in my 1988 B2200, part #FB44664D0 which I've broken apart and cleaned up, and now just works intermittently. The mount and electrical connector shown in your photo match mine. So I'd be glad to take that part off your hands.

However, older vehicles like my 1970 and 1971 VWs don't even have any safety interlock switch, folks back then were taught to push down the clutch pedal and shift into neutral before trying to engage the starter. So for my 1988 B2200 - in case repeated pushing down on the pedal doesn't engage the starter, in about two minutes I can go under the dash and insert this little jumper I made into the harness, and that bypasses the safety interlock completely (I carry this little jumper wire in my truck, haven't had need to use it more than just for a "try week".

There also can be a cruise control switch on the clutch pedal, different from the stater safety switch.

Yes, this came about from federal agency deciding that folks couldn't remember to put in neutral/press down the clutch pedal completely before engaging the starter, in the mid-1980s. See above.

This is what my switch looked like when I took it apart and cleaned it, when my intermittent starter engagement was traced to sometimes high resistance in the interlock switch; not a very complicated switch at all:

You state that part is physically different than the one in your B2600i? Can you post pictures of the existing one and your new switch?

Did you measure resistance of the new switch with an ohmmeter?

If you bought that switch through O'Reilly, it should be lifetime warrantied.
