Re-Built 1993 Mazda 626 V6 starts and stops
I'm new to this, and this is my first post, so I'd appreciate it if you'd bear with me. Over the past two years, I've been re-building a '93 626 V6 for my sister. Just a few days ago, it was back in the car and ready to go, but it wouldn't start. I later figured out that one of the timing belt pulleys for the cams was on backwards. I spent a few days getting that fixed and put back together, and last night I tried to start it again. Luckily, the timing is right, so it started, but it (with no throttle intervention from me) will start, rev up to about 2000 RPM, and then it dies. Every time. If I hold the throttle open just right, I can get it to hold at about 2500-3000, but if I let go or it falls below 1500, it dies.
I took the air box off to see if any vacuum hoses didn't get connected, and started it just for kicks. 3/4 times, it idled very roughly (falling to about 500 RPM and then revving back up to about 1300 and then falling again) and the fourth time, it revved all the way up to 5500 until I turned off the ignition. All the explanations I've found online are close, but don't accurately describe my problem. I'm so close and it's frustrating. Does anyone know what the problem might be? It has 112,XXX miles.
Thanks,
Camshapht
