Default Post-Top End overhaul -- won't start

Just replaced the head gasket on my 95 626 (4 cyl/2.0 FS). Having trouble starting the engine.

Timing marks aligned (#1 TDC w/cam sprockets matched) & distributor lined up w/#1.

Block intact - no cracks; heads/cylinders very clean!

Top-end completely overhauled to include valves/springs

New belts

Brand new distributor cap/rotor/wires/plugs/battery -- getting spark on all plugs & plenty of fuel

Car sounds like it wants to start but running out of answers -- thanks for any inputs ... I've done plenty of things wrong during this project so I know that I'm missing something!
