Which engine? The seals on my 1.5 are fairly easy to replace by just removing the valve cover.

2.0. DOHC. NON Turbo Already replaced them twice. The second time i siliconed around the seal and the parting edges where the cap meets the head.

Sorry for the bad luck. I just replaced mine along with some other stuff on my car and they are holding well. I got them as a part of a top end rebuild gasket set, and the instructions said to apply grease when installing. I used some blue teflon bearing grease on the cam surface and the outer diameter and it has worked well, no issues.

Dumb question - are you installing the ring with the groove facing out or in? Certainly the groove should be facing in. Also I noticed that when I installed mine the inner diameter hangs on the cam and rolls outward as you slide it on. I had to work it back and forth a little in order to let the edge roll back into place
