Default Mazda 626 - Gauges broken!

I drive a 2001 Mazda 626. Yesterday I was driving home when all of a sudden the digital numbers on my odometer started to fade/melt away, until they looked like a black blob. Then I saw that none of my gauges were working - the speedometer is stuck at 0 mph and the gas gauge is stuck on 1/2 tank, etc. Has anyone experienced this problem before or can anyone suggest how to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Colleen

Do any of the warning lights operate in the instrument cluster or is it just the gauges and odometer. All of the gauges and the odo are controlled by a microcomputer within the cluster itself. Check the 10 amp 'METER' fuse and the 15 amp 'ROOM' fuse in the underdash fuse box. If they both have power to and thru them then would then check the ground point which is on the engine near the ignition coil. Look for two wires attached to the engine or a bracket with a bolt and make sure it has a good connection with no corrosion on it.
