Engine sounds louder
About a year ago I bought a 99 Mazda 626 with about 130K. Initially when I started it, the engine was so quiet I sometimes had to get out and check to make sure I turned the engine on! However, in the past month or so, I have begun hearing a vibration in the engine. It sounds like it is coming from the area around the timing belt. Anybody got any suggestions as what it might be?
Do you know if the timing belt has ever been replaced? If the timing belt is getting old it can stretch a little and start making noise along with tensioner and idler bearings. It can also be the accessory belts too. It would be good to have it checked out as there is many things on the front of the engine that can make this noise. Noises are hard to diagnose without hearing them.
Last year a belt was changed, but I don't believe it was the timing belt. And I have no idea if the timing belt has been replaced. I think that I'll have the belts checked and see what I'm told. Thanks
