Default Can someone please help? Be very much appreciated.

Hello

I own a Mazda 323f 1.8 executive 1997. I have noticed that when the car is cold as well as warm I am getting a constant rythmic ticking noise which sounds like its from the tappets. I'm not particulary mechanically minded but can anyone help me in what to do? I have been told to change the oil and filter but usually isnt this associated with a ticking noise when the car is cold. Im fearful I need new tappets or a bigger problem. I dont have any spare money to spend and just extremely worried. I really dont know what it is, do they need adjusting? Is it dangerous to drive like this?

If anyone could shed some light or experienced similar problems I would really appreciate it.

Many Thanks

Ben

The oil was practically empty!! I only bought the car a couple days ago. I filled it up with fully synthtic oil. Was this the right choice? Any further suggestions to my previous post would really help me?

Thanks

Ben

first and formost check for oil leaks.....if no leaks , check oil level every few days. if no loss os oil forward it may have been valve seats re-seating if the car sat for awhile
or just a freak thing...

synthetic oils if there is a existing oil leak or burning issue will use more...the oils flow rate is much higher than petro oil. there are many makers of a high mileage syn oil..valvoline makes a maxlife syn oil that i have found in many customers cars to reduce oil consumption...(i work for valvoline)

if at all possable it is always best to run a synthetic oil...in any car except for a rotary or a subarooooooo...they do not like slippery oil....

There is one good reason to use synthetic if for nothing else....less dependence on arab oil!
