Default 95 Madza 929 oil leaking into intake plenum

Just purchased a 1995 929 with 100K on the odometerwith no previous knowledge of past history. In checking the air cleaner noticed engine oil (large amounts) in the air intake plenum between the air filter and throttle plate. Checking the PCV system the PCV valve on left rearvalve coverwas functioning but the right forward PCV fresh air intake hose supply from the valve cover to intake plenum appears to pump oil back into the intake due to strong negative pressure at that hose interface at the intake. Repair shop has indicated need to pull heads and do a valve job. They say the valve guides are bad. Not sure if I agree completely. Needing a second opnion. Additionally check engine light comes on like clock work after a couple miles on freeway and clears after shutdown and restart. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
John
