Hello
this is my first post on this forum so i hope i have the correct one ,anyway I have a question for anyone with a jap import , I have just bought a 2003 demio jap import into Ireland which in fact is the mazda 2 but with a demio badge in japan
Anyway she is a fresh import into Ireland and wanted to give her an oil change , what type of oil is best for a full service , was told 5w/30 fully synt was best
any suggestions

The trend these days for the US models seems to be 5w-20 as recommended by the manufacturer.
Being in Ireland (cold country,) I would think this would work fine for yours too, and is probably what is recommended there too.
And personally, yes, I would recommend full synthetic. I run 10,000 miles between oil, and 5,000 miles between filters in mine but it's largely personal preference. Some say full synth doesn't even break-in before 14k miles.

Whether 5w-20 or 5w-30 I can't say for sure, though I believe 5w-20 would work for you and afford slightly better mileage too. But I would still use full synthetic for best possible protection.
Timing belt? Are you sure about that? Most modern Mazda engine I am familiar with are using chains, which are good, according to Mazda, for the "life of the engine."
